Prototype 1 · built and testing

A passive reservoir system before connected complexity.

Water sits below a raised growing zone and moves upward through two soil-filled wicking columns. The current design also includes a dedicated fill tube, overflow level and air space.

MarketBrug is testing water movement, reservoir duration, root-zone moisture, compatible plants, Central Texas heat response, durability, appearance, build time and total cost. The illustration is explanatory and is not a construction guide.

Prototype planting themes

Compatibility matters more than plant count.

Shared soil and reservoir space require plants with reasonably compatible light, moisture, root and seasonal needs.

Theme 01

Kitchen herb garden

Basil, parsley or chives, thyme or oregano, with rosemary positioned only where testing supports its drier preference.

Theme 02

Warm-season garden

A suitable pepper with seasonally appropriate herbs and one compact companion plant.

Theme 03

Cool-season garden

Cilantro, parsley, dill and leafy greens selected for cooler Central Texas planting windows.

Mint normally stays in its own contained pot. Ginger needs a separate warm, moist and partly shaded treatment. Rosemary should not be presented as universally compatible with moisture-loving plants.
